Mrs. Pattu’s
story... |

A
labourer about 68 years old, Pattu, lives in Varadharajapuram.
Though she was working as a sweeper in the library
she has to earn by herself to live all alone.
She had to give up her job due to deteriorating
vision. She was in deep crisis as earnings vanished.
Fortunately for Pattu, paved the way for her
to be identified as a patient and was brought
for a vision checkup and the consultant adviced
to undergo an eye surgery.

A
van was arranged and took her to Sankara Nethralaya,
where a surgery was performed free of cost. The
surgery was performed successfully and Pattu's
vision was restored. After the surgery, she was
prescribed a pair of spectacles. That too was
also provided free of cost by Sankara Nethralaya.
Pattu is now once again productively employed
and is back at Rajapuram Library for work. With
her vision restored, she is now able to take care
of herself all by herself.
Mrs. Devaki’s story...

Devaki
of Nazarath Pettai was selling Flowers on the
streets. She was suffering due to poor vision
and the problem intensified with each passing
day. Sankara Nethralaya conducted camps through
their out reach programme with the help of NGO’s.
Devaki attended the camp. She was brought by van
along with other patients to Sankara Nethralaya.
Hence, she visited Sankara Nethralaya, it was
found that she had developed cataract in Right
eye which required surgery.

Sankara
Nethralaya came to her rescue and the cataract
surgery were performed free of cost. Even the
cost of the drugs and medicines and the intraocular
lens were borne by Sankara Nethralaya.
Now, Devaki is back at work selling Flowers
in her village. Her normal peak sale period
being evenings, her eyesight after the surgery
has helped her in a big way and now she is able
to look after her family.
Mrs. Kannagi's story...

It was difficult for the poor 32 years old
Kannagi to manage her family. She had poor eyesight,
which prevented her from doing the work at home
. Like any other Indian family, Kannagi too
wanted to see her daughter and son and take
good care of them. Now she was worried about
managing the family.
Sankara Nethralaya conducted camps through their
outreach programme with the help of NGO’s.

Kannagi
attended the camp she was brought to the hospital
by van along with the other patient, where she
was examined and found that a surgery was required
for restoring her vision. Sankara Nethralaya conducted
the surgery free of cost. The intraocular lens
required in the operation too was provided free
of cost. The treatment gave Kannagi more than
her eyesight.
Kannagi is now happy and her children are also
happy that their mother was now taking care of
them. She now takes short-term assignments and
earns the much needed extra income for her family.
Mr.Muthu’ s story...

Muthu,
an agricultural labourer aged about 71 years old
lives in North Malayambakkam. Though he was the
chief earning member of the family, he had to
give up his job on account of deteriorating vision.

Mr. Muthu attended the camp. He was brought by
van along with the other patients to Sankara Nethralaya.

advised him to undergo an eye surgery. Sankara
Nethralaya performed this surgery free of cost.
The surgery was performed successfully and Muthu's
vision was restored. After the surgery, he was
prescribed a pair of spectacles which was also
provided free of cost by Sankara Nethralaya.
Muthu is now productively employed and is back
again as the breadwinner for his family. With
his vision restored, he is now able to take care
of his family.

Govindammal of North Malayambakkam, was selling

Now, Govindammal is back at work, preparing ‘Sundal’
(snacks) and selling them on the pavements in
her village. Her normal peak sale period being
evenings, her eyesight after the surgery has helped
her in a big way and now she is able to look after
her big family of five members with ease.
Mr. Munuswamy’ s story...

Horse rider , 65 year old Munuswamy, lives in
Ambattur. Though he was the chief earning member
